The 18th edition of Pokhara Street Festival is set to welcome new year 2017 and bid farewell to year 2016. The festival is being organized by the Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal(REBAN) Pokhara from December 28 to Jan 1. This years edition of the festival is under the banner Lets eat in the streets, dance and revel.

At a press conference , Festivals Coordinator, Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai, said the 18th edition of the street festival being held annually during the same time and for the same period of time will bear the banner Lets eat in the streets, dance and revel. REBAN Pokhara Chairman, Chau Bahadur Gurung, said the street festival will span 3.5 km from Lakeside to Sahid Chowk to Patan of Khaharedihi.

The Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal (REBAN) and Hotel Association decided to give discount on the occasion of New Year eve 2017. From December 28, 2016 to January 1, 2017 there will be discount in restaurant recipes as per the menu apart from hotel in and around the Lakeside, Festivals Coordinator, Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai, said.

We have expected that about 1,500 to 2,000 will spend by one person he said. As a program of attraction there will be different cultural program shown, performance of artists, folk song, and comedy. And different game competition, documentaries and photo exhibition of adventurous & entertaining activities.

He also informed the gathering that UFTTA was also observing its Golden Jubilee this year adding that it was a happy coincidence. Present on the occasion of NATTA’s Press Meet were the Director General of Department of Tourism Mr. Jaya Narayan Acharya, CEO of NTB Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, NTB Board Member Mr. Krishna Aryal, NATTA 2nd VP Mr. D.K. NATTA has set out various programs to celebrate the event; some have already been organized while others are yet to be completed. In this connection, NATTA organized a cycle rally and Clean up Campaign at some of the Historical Sites like Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square to generate awareness to the public about cleanliness of the tourism sites and to draw attention of the concerned authorities that the earthquake hit tourist sites are desperately waiting to be reconstructed. NATTA along with Qatar Airways dedicated this year’s blood donation program to the Golden Jubilee. In addition, to make college students participate in tourism discourse, college level essay competition has also been organized on this historic occasion. There are many programs like Twenty First Convention of NATTA, Round Table Conclave, Award Ceremony and other quite feverish entertainment programs have been kept
along with the Inaugural Function on 9th December 2016 at Hotel Yak and Yeti, Kathmandu. This year also marks the Golden Jubilee of UFTAA (United Federation of Travel Agents Association), international umbrella association of travel agents. An Australian delegation led by lawmaker Jing Lee returned home today after completing a weeklong visit.

Speaking at a press meet at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) before her departure, lawmaker Lee said her delegation arrived here seeking to support Nepal in its ongoing post-earthquake reconstruction campaign and added that Nepal is safe for travel.

During her Nepal visit, she found it safer, she shared her experiences, urging the international community to visit Nepal and help it in the reconstruction efforts. Nepal is rich in history, art, culture and adventurous trekking routes, mountains, flora and fauna and natural possessions have made it a wonderful tourist destination, she described.

In her words, one must visit Nepal once. She said during its stay here, the delegation member visited the areas within the Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, and Chitwan and was mesmerized by the natural beauty of Pokhara.

Traditional art and culture inherited by the capital, extra-ordinary natural beauty possessed by Pokhara, an elephant riding in Chitwan and hospitality shown by the Nepali citizen to them touched their hearts and made a print in their minds, the Australian guest said.

Lee born in Malaysia is currently the lawmaker from the Australia ruling party Liberal Party of Australia.

Our visit was aimed at giving a message to the world that Nepal that resisted a major earthquake last year is safe as a tourist destination, she said, adding that after return home, she would encourage the Australian people to visit Nepal. She said she would take her time at the parliament there to inform lawmakers about Nepal and its beauty. During the visit, the Austrian lawmaker called on the Prime Minister and the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, some of her counterparts and the government senior officials.

At the press meet, Nepal’s Honorary Consul to the South Australia Deepak Dhamala said Lee’s visit has helped further consolidate the bilateral ties existing between Nepal and Australia.

Lawmaker Lee is also learnt to have individually contributed to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Fund in the wake of the powerful earthquake (April 25, 2015) in the country.

Thousands of professionals from the travel and tourism industry are gathering in London this weekend as World Travel Market prepares to open its doors for the 37th time with a new look, new programme.

This year, for the first time, WTM London 2016 will be a three day event, taking place on Monday 7th, Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th November, with extended hours from 10:00 to 19:00.

This means that even more business than last year (when £2.5 billion of deals were signed) will be conducted.

WTM London 2016 includes an array of new features, including the new 300-seater amphitheatre – the Inspire Theatre – added to the exhibitor floor in the North Hall of ExCeL, while the International Press Centre will now be located on the exhibition floor in the South Hall, facilitating improved contact between the media and exhibitors.

More than 80 conference seminars will take place throughout the three days, covering all the key sectors including aviation, hotels, sports, tourism, responsible tourism, blogging, social media, and travel technology.

Chandragiri Cable Car Service Opens

Chandragiri Hills on Monday officially opened the Chandragiri Cable Car service to the general public amid a Vedic ceremony.

Locals of Chandragiri Municipality in Kathmandu and Chitlang and Fakhel VDCs in Makwanpur were among the invitees to the ceremony conducted by the companys directors and promoters. A total of 10,641 visitors from Chandragiri, Chitlang and Fakhel and other guests enjoyed the free ride on the Chandragiri Cable Car and visited the temple on the hilltop. A two-way trip on the cable car from Thankot to the top of Chandragiri Hill costs Rs700.

More than 10,000 passengers rode the cable car on inauguration day, Chandragiri Hills said in a statement, adding that the company expected to carry 10,000 passengers daily in the days to come.
