Govt suspends Visit Nepal Year 2020 promotion campaign in foreign countries for time being owing to coronavirus outbreak

Nepal government has decided to suspend the Visit Nepal Year 2020 promotion campaign in foreign countries for the time being owing to coronavirus outbreak in various parts of the world.

Speaking at a rally organized in the promotion of Nepali tourism in Kathmandu, Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai informed that the government is now focusing on the promotion of domestic tourism.

He said that all the planned promotion of VNY 2020 at international level have been suspended for the time being.

“We have decided to postpone the VNY 2020 campaign in the international arena until the spread of coronavirus is contained,” he added.

He also maintained that the viral outbreak has invited fresh challenges for the government to meet the target of welcoming 2 million tourists to the country in 2020.

Effects of coronavirus are seen not only in the tourism industry of Nepal but also in the global market, industries, and business, he said.

Amid the viral outbreak in many parts of the world, the government has maintained a vigil at Tribhuvan International Airport and other entry points since the beginning of 2020.
