Ultra marathon runner and mountaineer, Sanjay Pandit, sets a new world record by spending over 6 minutes – half naked on top of Mount Elbrus.
On his way to conquering the tallest mountain in Russia, Mount Elbrus, Pandit spent 6minutes and 3seconds with top half of his body naked out in an extreme condition to set the world record. Adverse weather had delayed his accent up the Elbrus, by two days. On the same day, July 20, he successfully climbed another popular mountain in Russia mount Chirgad. Within Nepal Pandit has climed dozen mountains including Manaslu, Chhukugree, Island peak and Nagarjun. In doing so, he has also put his name on record books as the first ultra marathon runner to climb all these mountains. Pandit is said to be currently in the process of registering his triumph in the record books. Pandit has thanked all those who supported his endeavour including Nepal government, Ministry of Sport, Nepal Sports Council and Nepal Mountaineer Association among others. He is planning on climbing mount Denali in United States for his next challenge. Spending even a short time at the top of Mount Elbrus is a daunting task with temperatures dipping down to -60 degrees centigrade. Pandit is said to have suffered some frost bite on his feet and had acquired spots around his face (probably due to frostbite).
However, he has said that he was proud to have done so. “I feel proud to let the world know of Nepal and Nepali’s bravery though the medium of sport”, Pandit said.
